So You want to RENT your textbooks for Following Semester

Rentals are available to Outpost Customers that choose to rent and/or buy an their textbooks and can save you up front cost of up to 55% or more off the new book price!

Frequently asked Questions.

How does the Outpost Rental Program work?

    It's pretty easy...go to and click on Course Materials

  • Choose the department for each class on your schedule and click continue. 
  • Now choose the correct class and section for each class and click continue. 
  • Choose the books you want to either purchase or rent by adding to the cart. Click Shopping Cart to continue (or go back to add more titles).
  • Click continue checkout - - REMEMBER YOUR RENTAL RATES AND USED BOOK PRICES may not be available.
  • Next page select "add materials" in case the professor changes before you pick up or even adds more and check the box disclaimer.
  • Now you just need to register or log in.
  • For shipping address use "PICK UP AT STORE" as this option.
  • Again select Pick up at store as you shipping method.

Your account numbers is your student id number, check the disclaimer box and submit order.  




We will pull all of the books that are needed for your classes.  Please be aware that some books may be available for rental.  The website has most of the books - - but if in certain circumstance there might be a rental available. 

You will receive a confirmation when your order is ready to be picked up. 

When will they be ready for pick up?

All books ordered on line today to the Wednesday before Classes start will be held in the store.  You may pick up the books anytime you receive the e-mail confirming your order has been successfully completed.


After that date all books ordered before 12:00pm will be available for pick up at 5:00 that evening.

Any books ordered after 12:00pm will be ready the following day after 12:00pm. 

All rented books are due back no later than December 19, 2014. 

Those books used for continuation classes are eligible for an extended rental period. 


Rental Policies

Outpost Rental User Agreement


This Rental User Agreement is considered to be a contract between you and University Outpost Bookstore.

By signing your name below, you agree to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, our privacy policy, and our terms of use.

You agree that this User Agreement is legally binding between you and University Outpost.

You agree to be bound to any changes to this Agreement when you use the Website or the Service after the change is posted.]


Returning Your Rental.


All Outpost Rentals are good for a semester unless otherwise requested.  Semester rentals are due back no later than the Friday following James Madison University's Exam Week.  By placing your rental order with University Outpost, you agree to use University Outpost's rental returns process and to return the rented merchandise to University Outpost Bookstore. You agree that failing to use University Outpost's rental returns process may result in you not getting credit for your rental return.


You agree that you are responsible for remembering the rental return date and returning the rental to us within the timeframe specified.

If you do not return your books by the rental return date, you may be charged either a 15-day extension fee or a 110% (on new price) replacement fee.

If you are charged an extension fee and the rented merchandise is not received by the extended return date, you will be charged the remaining replacement fee.

The replacement fee will be the current new list price of the book less your originally charged rental fee.


Payments and Fees.


A valid, active credit card is required for any rental transaction. University Outpost accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.

University Outpost Bookstore will store your credit card and JAC card information and you acknowledge and agree that University Outpost may charge you for any lost, stolen, damaged or unreturned rented merchandise.

You also agree to allow University Outpost to charge either of these cards any additional amount if you choose to buy a rented textbook at anytime during the rental period, and for any extension fees or replacement fees associated with your rental.

In the case of rental orders partially or fully paid for with a non-credit card payment source, University Outpost will process an authorization against the credit card provided equal to the amount of rental charges in order to validate the authenticity of the credit card provided.




Once the book is in your possession, you are responsible for its condition.

Damage to a rented book is defined as any condition that makes the book unusable as a future rental.

Such conditions include any water damage, a broken spine, missing pages, missing or torn covers, excessive highlighting (more then 1/3 of the content), excessive or inappropriate notes or any other such condition that makes the book unsuitable for future use.


A fee will be charged to credit card on file of any customer returning a damaged book.

The fee will be assessed at the discretion of University Outpost and may up to the replacement fee of the book.
